First time I heard this song, I was home on leave from the Army, in-transit between my duty station at Ft. Richardson, Alaska to my new posting with the 82nd Abn Div at Ft. Bragg, NC. Funny how hearing a song for the first time can "freeze time" in ones mind every time when hearing it again. Always liked the beat to this one. Never thought much about this song before I did a little plainclothes work with the LSP some years back. A great tune from when I was still in high school.
Always preferred this version of the late great Roy Orbison's tune, Crying. Don McLean covered it in the 70s, and although it was good too, I still preferred this one Roy sang with kd lang. One of Harry Chapin's greatest songs IMHO. This song by Roberta Flack in 1972 was in my opinion the best version of a song covered many times by many artists since it was wrote in 1957 by British singer/song writer Ewan Macoll. It is said that Macoll hated every cover of his song. Here's a list of artists who covered it. I just hope that Justin Beiber doesn't try to cover it.
Here's Redbone singing Come and Get Your Love, live on The Midnight Special. Super great tune. Never tire of hearing this one. The band's name is a derogatory slang for mixed race folks such as American Indian/Creole French, American Indian/black, American Indian/white, American Indian/Hispanic, or a combination of any of the aforementioned ethnic groups. But not black and Creole French, those folks are referred to as "mulattoes". Here's some Boston. They're Yankees you know, but they sing pretty good. All their songs are real loud for some reason. Here's another group from Boston. Yes they're Yankees too, but of Irish extraction. Y'all might recognize this one. It's The Green Fields of France. I really like this song.
Great drinking tune here. Downed many a pint listening to this one, stumbling out of the bar when the sun was already up. Man I could've been rich if I didn't drink, or at least maybe pretty well off. I guess I'll call this a deep thought song. Second guessing everything I did all along while listening to it. Oh well, too late now I guess. This is a driving tune. Late night on the road type. Long way to go down the road.
This one lighten things up a bit. Great sing a long song at the bar. Once all the guys on my Mardi Gras float was singing it aloud on the parade route. Guess you had to be there. Nice tune here. Good alibi song. Probably wouldn't really work though. More from Shaggy. There's another version, close to 6 minutes in length total. Can't find it anywhere now. I like that one better, but this one isn't bad at all.
Wish I could dance like that. Here's a piece of that same song in the movie "Undercover Brother". Here's the opening scene from the movie "Undercover Brother". Y'all gotta watch this flick. Well, I'll be signing off now. My relief showed up early, time to go home and take a nap!
