No. I just saw no need to intrude on other people's grief.
He was not the sort of bloke you would let babysit for you.
The Theroux documentry was not very flattering and I presume we will soon have lots of revelations in the papers.
He certainly was on the edge of many dodgy events and The Nolan sisters were some of the first to go public about his behaviour.
I would compare him to Frank Bruno. Someone with a high profile 'nice guy' image but in real life was the exact opposite.
Michael Winner is the mirror image. Comes across as a right tosser but in the flesh is a really charming man.
    Just my opinion.

No. Once met a nurse who previously worked at Stoke Mandervile. She said he was a groper.

Met him in the 80s when I was into running. I started quite a few half marathons with him and although he was 15 years my senior I could never beat him. Jimmy Savile could run up a hill faster than a man half his age.

Far from it, always had a word for people (myself included) when he'd go for a jog around Roundhay in Leeds where he lived. Always made a point of speaking to joe blogs, ie bin men, posties.

I am all too aware of the Latin tag “De mortuis nihil nisi bonum” and have, on occasion, spoken strongly against those who would attack the reputations of those who are no longer here to defend themselves.

I would however have been blind not to have read the allegations that have been recently made against the late Jimmy Savile and was immediately reminded of something that I had previously forgotten that a good friend once said of him.

The friend was Pat, AKA Edward Arthur Patman and I first wrote about him on the BBC People’s War site and subsequently on this forum
    http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/all-anniversaries/6873-day-during-ww2-53.html

You need to know that after Eddie retired, he became a volunteer at Stoke Mandeville and used to spend a fair amount of time helping the patients by writing letters for them, doing local shopping and generally making life a little easier for them whilst they were going through their exhaustive and emotionally draining treatment.
On one occasion I mentioned the name of Jimmy Savile and to my surprise Edie, who was the most mild spoken and forgiving of men immediately made a most un-usual and caustic remark about the man and simply because I was curious, I pressed him for details.

Eddie said, without any qualification, “Jimmy Savile is a most obnoxious character, completely self-serving, and only interested in furthering his own image”
He also told me that Savile had his own room at the centre and was only tolerated because of the huge sums of money that he raised for the charity.

I never met or knew Jimmy Savile but I did know Eddie and would have trusted his judgement completely, I am therefore not over surprised by the present revelations.
