I don't know who you're referring to. I live in Watertown, MA. And I don't think this is a political thread.

    More and more people simply ignoring cautions here--no masks, getting close to one another, the works. Since businesses are now reopening on a reduced scale I think people are presuming that it's over. Second wave, here we come. Anyway, the epidemic now seems to be eclipsed in our consciousness by the ugly political situation [SAY NO MORE!}

I've been trying to stay productive, get exercise, do some writing, get started on job search, etc., but today was just a rotten day. Typical New England for one thing, skies lead gray. I started off on foot to my old office to return some stuff and got soaked by a summer shower, so that I gave up on that idea. I came home and found some foolish comments on Facebook. I've gotten effall done, as they say in the RAF. Oh well, hope tomorrow is better.

Same over here. What we call the 'tension-arc' of some is very short. Many (not all) have unilaterally declared the Covid crisis as ended and go on as if the virus no longer exists ... but it's still out there, a bit dormant because of the warm spring weather.

The human factor which is not in the models: discipline getting lost; people don't sticking to the basic rules. This ultimately will lead to a 2nd wave (another 10,000+ dead in Holland?). The uncontrolled (no vaccin) Spanish Flu in 1918 swept through Holland three times before it sputtered out - the second wave being the most deadly.

This is not a normal Flu: Even the health of many corona patients who have not been hospitalized is still "shockingly bad" after months. Fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pressure, headache, muscle pain: Almost three months after the first symptoms of the virus, some of the corona patients who were sick at home still have serious complaints. This is evident from a Dutch poll by the Longfonds, the CIRO center and Maastricht University among more than 1600 people about complaints after corona. No less than 95 percent of respondents report problems with simple daily activities. 85 percent of the participants - with an average age of 53 - say they had a good condition before the infection. But 6 percent think that health is now back on track.

I personally know a few of these so-called cured patients. People are still completely broken.

Now that Covid 19 appears to be coming to it's logical end, talk is coming around to various other severe illnesses that are equally life threatening including that old devil ,Cancer.

As I have previously written, almost 3 years ago I discovered that I was the victim of Prostate cancer and fortunately for me I was immediately put on the right treatment which consisted of a 3 monthly PSA blood test followed, a week later, by a Prostap tummy jab.

During the pandemic my local hospital closed it's Phlebotomy Dept. but thankfully the 3 monthly tummy jab was continued at another hospital.

One is left to wonder how many cases of severe illnesses will now occur simply because the pandemic caused existing illnesses to be left out of the equation and certainly without due thought of future treatment.

    Much
Much the same happened in 1919/20 with the "Spanish" flu pandemic. For example some early antibiotic developments which if followed up could have introduced antibiotics two decades earlier than penicillin were curtailed.

What worries me is that cancer patients have had their chemo/radiotherapy programme stopped for nearly 3 months.
Many other people who would normally go to their GP's for referrals for possible symptons of cancer have been too scared to do so because of the fear of catching Coronovirus in hospital. There could be many deaths because of this.

This chap kept asking for a scan but it was delayed

Woborn are reopening their Safari Park next week - just the motor section. Their Twitter says that this restriction is for safety reasons "provide a safe, fun and much-needed family day out, from the comfort and safety of your own car" but the photo somewhat belies this

    Pieter,

This is completely new information to me. The media in North America provides counts on the number of "recovered" cases but I have seen no mention of widespread, ongoing health effects.

Thankfully our best mate has still been having her radiotherapy but in another town.
    That is now complete.
Hopefully she'll be around for a few more years.

I watched Newsnight (BBC) a few nights back and thought the thread of the programme was simply nonsensical. Each segment of the programme criticised the government, but totally contradicted the previous piece. It went like this:

    1. In Newsnight's view Britain locked down far too late.
    2. Why are the public cheesed off with it all and are now breaking all the social distancing rules etc.
    3. Schools will need a 1m social distancing rule to be able to resume classes properly.
    4. We ought to be very careful in opening up elements of society too soon.
    5. If we don't all get back to work soon, the economy will be in tatters.

In the supermarket today, where squares are clearly marked for safe distancing, a shitheads and his wife shopped right next to me. I just walked away and came back around when they left. It's not worth getting in their face.

I came back into the building after shopping. I heard someone coming down the stairs and heard them stop. I called out to give him space, so he was able to leave. Not even a thank you. It seems we are into the next phase, basically people are starting to become, FU i'm alright jack, screw you!!:reallymad: . I still believe in karma.
