I must confess that I had to look up 'gentian violet'. Never heard that name before. Placed as it was between penicillin and Vaseline, my initial thought was a prostitutes name.
Ah dear canuck, your reply made me laugh aloud and still has me smiling! Any lady of the night who'd used the working name "Gentian Violet" would have attracted absolutely no business, and been shutting up shop before the doors were open (even if prospective customers were a bromide free zone!) I'm a man of a certain age and unfortunately Impetigo was not uncommon, and if you caught it the blue unction (gentian violet) treatment was heading for your fizzog double quick! I hope, should compulsory mask-wearing be introduced in the UK, that the malcontents and those with criminal intent do not see it as making their modus operandi easier.
