Hmm - yes - lets hope the filtration and cleaning systems at the water treatment plants are working overtime, I also guess a percentage ends up going into the natural water system.
As previously with nitrates etc all these chemicals going into the system could come back to bite us

The virus has protein envelope that enables it to bind to and penetrate human cells but which can be disrupted by some of the basic 'soap' ingredients if applied before it gets into the body so anti bacterial products that have a soap basis will kill it - but only if used to clean hands and/or surfaces. Alcohol or good old fashioned plain soap will do the job - used externally. Superbugs often come from stupid overuse of antibiotics internally particularly from greedy US bigfarmer

    An attempt at some statistics:

About 60 - 70% of the population will become infected by the virus. In the UK with 56 millon people that will be a total of at least 33 millon.

Of these 1% will incur serious complaints that require hospitalization. That's a number of 336.000 patients. Of these a shockingly high number 24 - 34 % (the Dutch experience at the moment) will have to be admitted to the intensive care. That is a number of 84.000 to 114.240 patients, of whom eventually between 1 - 3 % will succumb ... say between 840 and 3.427. This scenario is inevitable and could turn out worse if the virus spreads too fast.

The bottle neck is the IC capacity: isolation rooms, IC staff and ventilators (most patients lie two to three weeks on a ventilator) ... if the virus peaks too fast the health system will be overwhelmed and you enter 'Code Black'. A situation which (if I'm right) occurs in Italy ... where the death rate now has exceeded the 3%.

Or does this sound too pessimistic?

As from last Sunday public live in Holland has been partly locked down for the next three weeks ... no mass events are allowed, no sports, no church services, hotels/restaurants and bars are closed (incl.the coffeeshops!), many offices - even the courts - are closed, we work at home as much as possible, all schools are closed (from Primary right up to Universities) and everyone has to avoid non-essential contacts as much as possible (there's still some debate between me and my wife about how far that goes). The general expectation is that all these measures will probably last for a longer period than the three weeks - maybe two months; some even say untill the fall. All these measures are aimed at damping the disease curve; slowing down the spread of the disease and keeping it manageable for the health system.

The virus not only affects the old. The majority of the patients in Holland at the moment is between 30 to 50 years of age ... and mind you of those recovered some will sustain permanent lung injuries.

In Holland we now have 1413 registered patients (the actual number is higher, probably as many as 6000 people are infected) and 24 deaths, half of these died during the last two days. With a population of 17 million Holland will have between 240 and 1040 deaths. Some even fear that in two weeks we might be where the Italians are right now with a death rate of about 8%.

Situation in Holland rapidly changes now

Edit: 17 March - 19 new death cases, that makes 43; total registered patients 1705
Edit: 18 March - 15 new deaths, total now risen to 58; total registered patients 2051
Edit: 19 March - 18 new deaths, total now 76; total registered patients 2465
Edit : 20 March - 30 people died today, total now 106; total registered patients 2994

Now informed to avoid pubs restaurants theatres etc .
From a business viewpoint it is a major disaster.
Revenue lost and staff not earning
When they close the schools parents will have to take time off work

    it is a financial nightmare.

And the media and social media are causing issues for certain members of society ensuring they panic

And all of this because an arrogant (and essentially populist) Communist Chinese elite refused to heed warnings about the misuse of wildlife. This should be remembered.

Some retail chains are already preparing hit lists for staff redundancies I'm told.

My Dad and I were watching Channel 4 News last Friday and I have to say that some of the so called experts they were interviewing, especially those who were in disagreement with the UK government plans at that time, were incredibly irresponsible in their views and the body language they employed. Waving their arms in the air and holding their heads when listening to the contrary view to their own.

Do not talk to the Tram conductor:

    Tram.jpg

Buses, trams and metros practically run empty through the city: many people stay at home or prefer to walk a bit. Anyone who gets in feels anything but pleasant.

Hoarding weed at the coffeeshop (around 17:30 hours last Sunday it was announced that the shops also were to close down from 18:00 hrs for the next three weeks o_O):

    Wiet hamsteren.jpg

PS. To prevent withdrawal symptoms and an increase of street dealing, it has been decided today that weed may be purchased at the take-out counters of the coffeeshops.

As Steve Dee has pointed out in post #220,the conclusion drawn from a high body temperature...it's important to be aware of what a high body temperature can indicate.

Recently I heard that the Moscow airports had incoming flight arrivals tested by body temperature scanner.Above 37.8 degrees C and it was a pointer to a likely coronairus infection.....not known what the procedure is when an arrival is above the normal body temperature.

Newspaper used in Steve's post showing newspapers as bog paper..... was a common feature during the war....sewage systems not adversely effected as I recall but times are different and skin care wipes etc are well known to be not capable of being broken down by water.
