Have just been looking at an old copy of DEKHO!, the magazine for the above association. I see that there is a proposal, once the right time has come, to start a "follow on " organization, probably to be known as Family and Friends of Burma Veterans. There is a name , number and email to contact for interested parties. If anyone wants these details please send a PM and I will let you have them

    Hi Sylvia,

The Chindit Old Comrades Association is having the same thoughts, what to do next. They have the organisation 'The Friends of the Chindits'. This has been running for about 5 years or so and is in the process of setting up the legacy and focus point for these brave men and their contribution to the Burma campaign.

I for one would be interested in helping out with an overall organisation.

    Best wishes.

The Burma Campaign Society is another such group. I will post details once I have been given clearance.

Well, I didn't even know there was Burma Campaign Society! The things you learn on this website never cease to amaze me. I find emailing the BSA a very odd process. Sometimes you get a reply, sometimes not. As I said before, happy to pass on details of the chap starting up the "follow on" Shall I send a PM?

Hello, In reply to above. I have been in touch with Roger . He does not want his personal details out in the public domain but asks that people use info@burmastar.net. to communicate with him. He has told me about the Chinthe carving he is making and also about the VJ anniversary at The National Memorial at Alrewas on 15th August. I know I am going off the topic now and think the Alrewas Service really needs a separate post, but don't want to steal your thunder! Anyway, Roger confirms that once he has his memorial sorted and VJ Day is over, he will be making a start on the new Association. The sad bit is that they have been told they cannot use the name Burma Star in the title.Likely to be The Burma Veterans Remembrance Association.

HC, Reply from RN. If you get bounced using info@burmastar.net again, if you send me a PM with your own email or phone no, I will pass it on to him. It is a daft way to get you together but seems to be the only way round it.

Another veteran Association is the 50th Indian Para Association. The chairman of the Association is Maurice Bell, a Lt during the Battle of Sangshak. He is very much associated with the Burma star Association also.

For anyone interested in getting involved in the follow on group to the Burma Star Association, it is currently a project being put together by myself and another Friend Member form Birmingham Branch of the Association. We have benn told very firmly by Viscount Slim that we cannot use the term "Burma Star" in the name. We have had a suggestion that we should consider "Burma Veterans Remembrance Association", alternatively "Remembering the Forgotten XIVth Army". Both seem a bit on the long side but we may have no choice.

I can be contacted on the following email:

    info@burmastar.net

The Burma Star Association have made it plain that we must go it alone, so currently we are only in the very early stages.

On the subject of the Chindit Memorial at Alrewas, it was Consecrated on VJ Day and here are some links for interested parties:

This is something I set up a couple of years ago initially as a diary for Birmingham Branch, it has grown somewhat from my original idea. There are a couple of albums here that show the Chindit Memorial having the Chinthe mounted and the Consecration Ceremony.

This will take you to footage from BBC Midlands Today from VJ Day 2013

This will take you to footage from British Forces News from the same day.

I have to say that seeing the emotions that the Chindit veterans showed upon seeing the finished statue is something I shall never forget.

Roger, I expect you Chindits were really pleased that they were being remembered. It is a pity about the name Burma Star. I wonder what their problem is. Any ideas?

Roger's workmanship on the model for this bronze is truly a work of fine art... I had the good fortune to meet him and see a scaled down prototype in June at the COCA dinner...

    Hi Roger,

I have just seen your work in regard to the new Chindit Memorial displayed on various pages in the latest issue of Dekho! magazine. Once again hearty congratulations on a wonderful piece of craftsmanship.
