    This is posted in answer to a pm from Terry Davies being helpful to members interested in Grenadier Guard actions.

    Approximately one mile from Longstop one degree west of north.
    Longitude 9.5 Latitude 36.8

    Infantry units engaged in first battles in the area
    Longstop: Grenadier Guards, 18th Combat Team, Ist US Infantry Division
    Djebel Rmel: Combat teams, 1st US Infantry Division.

    Thanks Gerry,
    am i right in thinking djemel rmel is marked on the map as djebel boulahoudjeb , 6th Black Watch were in this area around 10th April 1943.

    No it is the hill slightly to the north - the source of the river Melah. It was held by the Germans as it had a more commanding view. Most of the fighting took place on the col between it and Djebel Boulahoudjeb.

    Of interest. The NIH had 17 Churchills put out of action in Tunisia, of which 10 were repaired. The only recorded loss by fire from Panzers occured when a PzKFw !V got ours as she entered the col.
