    Charley,

I'd never heard of this battle until reading a newly published online article today: 'The City Is Neutral: On Urban Warfare in the 21st Century' by David Betz and Hugo Stanford Tuck, respectively at Kings College London and a serving Gurkha officer, which has the following passage within:
    It then adds:
    They quote one footnote source:
Link to the article (freely available): The City Is Neutral: On Urban Warfare in the 21st Century - Texas National Security Review

I plan to email David Betz with pointers to your two sources.

Finally within the article is a puzzling reference to a British force fighting the Irgun who had taken the city of Jaffa; yes I know this is extra to the thread (until I find a suitable place for it):

In memory of this battle, soldiers of 6 GR, until the Regiment was merged into the RGR, wore the badge of the King's Hussars on their Service Dress.

Stuart Avery In my wagon & not a muleteer.

I know a chap that lives in Darwen, Lancashire ( who was a Councillor who served in the Kings Hussars many years ago)! I'm sure its one of there Battle Honours (probably 6 GR as well)? He has a nice flag in the back of his wagon that he drives. I think it was in the early eighties when he served with them? He's even got circular stickers in his car that he's had made (the size of the old car tax disc).

I've not asked him much about what he knows. I could be wrong, but I'm sure he's mentioned that both of these Regiments go out to Medicina from time- to-time. A really nice chap who I enjoyed working with for about three years.

    Regards,
    Stu.
