It does say that rants are allowed here, doesn't it ?

I'm fed up to the back teeth of sport, sport, sport...It's bad enough that the rear half of the papers is always full of non-news, but now whole newspapers have been taken over, not to mention the world's most efficient state-subsidised propaganda organisation, the BBC. Sport seems to be the new opium of the people - If their country is winning then then the plebs are happy.

I find the whole idea that sportspersons compete for their countries frankly preposterous. They do it for themselves and taxpayers are mug enough to pay for it.

Anyone reading this who thinks that I've got a chip on my shoulder is probably correct. I've never recovered from the ritual humiliation that passed as sports lessons in the English schools of the 1960s and I still hate the bastards that subjected me to it.:p

I ignored it to start with, but I guess I'm in a bad mood this morning. It's all well and good to hate the Olympics and sport in general, but to call out those who have been enjoying it as plebs and mugs is not on. Basically a big two fingers to anyone having fun in the last few pages of this thread. :angry2:

Look, Thorpey has been a great pundit. 2nd only to Michael Johnson in my opinion.

I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the suicide death bikes today. Shame the final wasn't 3 rounds like all the heats. Not enough carnage!

Yes it has been a roaring success

The Brits not only supporting home turf but also the world and his wife

    well done to everyone

just need to keep it going now

    onwards and upwards

Tonight's Olympic broadcast over here in the US began with an original 1 hour documentary about Britain's role in WW2, produced by Tom Brokaw, entitled "Their Finest Hour" . It included interviews with some veterans, survivors of the bombing of Coventry, the blitz and authors Juliet Gardiner, Lynne Olson, Antony Beevor and Andrew Roberts. It featured some great film footage of Dunkirk, Battle of Britain and the Blitz among others.

Also had an interview with a German veteran who made the comment that they never considered themselves to be fanatical Nazis and that they only began to be portrayed that way after the war.

Another great performance by Mo Farah and a fantastic medal haul by the British team.

I've had an idea, Lesley. How about you go around to all the houses of the Yorkshire Gold Medallists and have your photo taken with them?

You could start with that proud son of Huddersfield, Ed Clancy who lives in..er...Netwon-Le-Willows. ;)

Sensible lad. Lives in the right place. But then again so does Bradley Wiggins, Jason Kenny, Chris Hoy, Geraint Thomas, Pete Kennaugh etc etc...
