I'm fed up to the back teeth of sport, sport, sport...It's bad enough that the rear half of the papers is always full of non-news, but now whole newspapers have been taken over, not to mention the world's most efficient state-subsidised propaganda organisation, the BBC. Sport seems to be the new opium of the people - If their country is winning then then the plebs are happy.

I find the whole idea that sportspersons compete for their countries frankly preposterous. They do it for themselves and taxpayers are mug enough to pay for it.

Anyone reading this who thinks that I've got a chip on my shoulder is probably correct. I've never recovered from the ritual humiliation that passed as sports lessons in the English schools of the 1960s and I still hate the bastards that subjected me to it.:p

Look, Thorpey has been a great pundit. 2nd only to Michael Johnson in my opinion.


I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the suicide death bikes today. Shame the final wasn't 3 rounds like all the heats. Not enough carnage!

Good on ya for taking a contrarian view.

The last time I checked, the forum was still a place for the free exchange of opinions (well, most anyway) and once the euphoria of the games end, you may be proven right. Many host cities take decades to pay off Olympic related debt.
