    It's building.
Can you hear the IOC bandwagon coming? can you see the overpriced tat in your local supermarket? Can you feel the roar of Typhoons overhead?

As it's inevitably going to crop up, I'll declare this thread an Olympics Free-Fire zone. Politics allowed on this thread as a special offer, as politics and sport always seems intricately linked during this four-yearly bunfest (and 'cos I'm guessing it'll make me laugh.)

    Happy about it?
Don't know that I am, but I suppose it's only a few weeks.

We are still paying for the soccer world cup. No one knows what to do with the stadiums and costs a fortune to maintain them.

The so called "global events" only benefit a small minority. Tax payers will have to pay a heavy price.

But Athens now has a great airport and flashy Metro. A better legacy than London will have. We'll just be broke. ;)

I didn't get any but did win tickets for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert at Buck House. Which is even better :)

All counterfeit of course. Not only did we spend £400,000 on a logo, we did this to protect it, since copyright laws are not enough:

Olympic Symbol etc. (Protection) Act 1995

would not mind if we'd spent it all on this:

    QFT

Disable people that have had there benefit cut and Remploy (which i believe was made to help disable solders from ww2) jobs axed Are going to disrupt the Olympics. A few will benefit indeed. We could have done the would cup so cheap as all the stuff was there but the Olympics who cares we can't even enter people in the pistol shooting.

Why aren't we using closed-down RAF bases, like we did in 1948? Save a fortune.

    BBC - Archive - The 1948 Olympics - Vintage Sporting Years | 1948

Forget the guy who said it but I think one of the dudes who organized the 1948 Olympics said:
" We had no money so we had to think" maybe not word for word:) but it is quite famous.

I thought I'd seen some bizarre pandering to the IOC, but that is truly peculiar.

Especially perhaps, for a Logo that looks like Lisa Simpson performing 'a certain act'.

    It's a huge pain in the ar*e!
Have you tried to get hotel accommodation within 30 miles? I've had to turn down work there because I can't afford the prices due to them being hiked out of all proportion.
