The 100 Hour War

During July of 1969, a brief but violent conflict erupted between the Central American republics of Honduras and El Salvador.

Often called the "Soccer War", because the score of a qualifying round match for the Mexico '70 World Cup between these two nations provided the spark that ignited a barrel full of hatred born out of mistreatment for inmigrants trying to make a living on the wrong side of the border, it saw among other things, the last real-life dogfights ever between piston-engined fighters.

Does anyone have any info on the subject, links to e-books perhaps? Being just on the other side of the border from both countries, I have done a bit of homework on the aerial aspect of the conflict:

El Salvador vs Honduras, 1969: The 100-Hour War

But haven´t been able to find much on land operations.

Besides, since I´m just starting to pick up steam on the subject, anything will be of great help (but if it is substantial, the better... ;))

    Hello WL,

There doesn't seem to be much out there on the ground war. There is this obituary of an officer, which at least confirms some ground fighting took place -
Obituary: General Fidel Sanchez Hernandez | Independent, The (London) | Find Articles at BNET

This book partly covers the subject of the 100 hour war but perhaps rather briefly -
Amazon.com: The Soccer War: Ryszard Kapuscinski: Books

Whilst this book might be a bit more focussed -
Amazon.com: The War of the Dispossessed: Honduras and El Salvador, 1969: Thomas P. Anderson: Books

All in all, a rather short list...

I knew I could count on you, even though I´m still waiting for your impressions on GM100 and the rest of the Indochina affair... :p

    Thanks a lot, mate.

Anything else will be greatly appreciated, you war buffs out there. :salut:
