Had an uncle in General Service Corps 1944-45 who spent some time as a signaller with them in India and Burma but ideally you need their War Diary, someone on here can probably help. Just need to give it a while.
If necessary I will post notes taken from my uncles Service record but it will be rather sparse.

I was about to post the previous references to 1st Wilts on WW2t but Owen got in first.
Such is life but hopefully this demonstrates that people on the site all try to help.
You will no doubt find the official history interesting.

I tend to prefer to read stories written by people who were there but many were written long after the event.
However here is a story from a man who gave his story to a local organisation (often County Archives) which they transcribed.

Typically the men recall the more mundane things such as food (which could often be a rarity) or the way in which they lived.
Very rarely did they speak of the fighting certainly not in detail.
They simply brushed over it as a matter of course.

My uncle was a signaller with the 1st Wilts about this time.

A quick look at the Wardrobe the information looked a bit thin however you might be able to spend more time than myself on there.

Here is a bit more info ref 1st Wilts: Wiltshire Regiment - Wikipedia
Note that in 1944 as part of 26th Indian Division, they were involved in the Battle of the Admin Box.
Quite an important battle and very bloody. My uncle was a signaller (radio operator) he was cut off and went missing for a short while but turned up having evaded capture. When the 1st Wilts went back to India he went to 14th Army Signals. He ended the war as an instructor in Poona India attached to 1st Wilts once more.

Looking at Richard's other thread , his relative left India early January 1944 & would have missed all that.

The War Diary might make a best seller, I will circulate its availability amongst my family. My wife is also a Moonraker born in Marlborough.

A nice place. Been there Cathedral and all. I have an Aunt and cousins in Trowbridge, Wilts.

You are right in Army country there, around Salisbury, like Salisbury Plain, Larkhill the big Royal Artillery barracks, still.?
