Taukkyan War Cemetery, Myanmar-Burma - Major The Honourable Freeman-Mitford T.D. - A Tribute

Served with the 11th (1st Battalion The Queens Westminsters) Battalion, Eton educated and the only son of Lord and Lady Redesdale of Inch Kenneth, Oban, Scotland, who died on Good Friday, 30th March 1945 of wounds received 6 days earlier.

What I find interesting about this man is that he ''chose to serve in Italy and North Africa, and then in Burma, since he did not want to fight against Germany''...see WIKI link below. I wonder if there was some kind of family connection between the UK and Germany and, equally, if such Officers were in a position to 'dictate' their' theaters of operation?
