Just had a heads up from a mate that a new program is on UKTVHistory at 1600 & 2200 daily for the rest of the week called "Tank Overhaul". Appears to be runthroughs of restorations of Comet, Sherman, Panther & hellcat. Todays is the IOW Comet which some of us have seen roaring around Beltring. Tomorrow's is Jaques Littlefield's Panther, which should be fascinating as his restoration standards are astonishingly high. Another mate has just phoned me and says the first program was very good. Listings. Cheers, Adam.
Yep, spotted this the other day, and even though I'm not a tank-top, I'm gonna watch, but not the first showing which is at 2200hrs. The episode is then repeated the following day at 1000hrs and 1600hrs. The Sherman is on Thursday night/Friday day.
Wondered why VP not here. Just kicked Mrs D off telly and had a dekko, they just taken turret off. Prog full of art-farty time filling camera shots. Comet looks good, prog itself looks pretty rubbish. Tried to watch it but gave up. Blooming Yank program init? "Bovington , South-west of London" drawls the narator with his silly accent. Oh yeah, the CGI of Comets crossing the Rhine was awful. Just watched last few minutes. Narrator " The Allies took Berlin." What, is it too painful for an American to say "The SOVIETS took Berlin"? Loved the footage of IS-3 on Parade in Berlin. Doubt if I'll watch the others in series.
Superb. Maximum respect to the pleasing blokes getting that old dear running again. Cheerfully disregard a thin layer of TV fluff used as links and the heart of the program, the restoration, shone through.
heart of the program, the restoration, shone through. Exactly so why not have 30 minutes of this than hour with added drivel? Put me right off it, as you can tell.
Because the media whores demand their pound of flesh? More like 45 mins of good stuff, surprisingly good ratio for that type of program & comment from David Fletcher. Go on... watch the Littlefield Panther one and see what the millionaire yanks can do. (saw the blue Kegresse in the above article being loaded onto a flatbed in Kent a few years ago .) I see I was mistaken that it's the IOW Comet at Beltring, brilliant plan to get a troop of four together again. 3 done now? I can't wait.
Quick Kyt! there's a programme on about restoring an Indian air force Spitfire back to flying condition having recovered it from a sunken transport amongst dozens of other planes... And then it'll be flown by the original pilot using live ammunition against 1:1 scale radio controlled German and Italian planes... Oh no, hang on, it's celebrity big sodding brother again,
I've always been disappointed that people don't start their posts with "(insert nasal tone) did you know...............?" And VP, I hate you - I became quite uncomfortable around the trouser area until I read your last sentence. You're such a Spit-tease
OK, Panther on at 10.00. I'll give it ago. These rich chaps collect the real thing like some mere mortals collect models.
Just finished watching Panther prog. Now that was better, maybe I was tired last night. CGI of battle was pretty good. Spent too much time on Leopard II though.
Nice to finally get a proper glimpse of Kevin Wheatcroft's collection. I knew he had lots but no Idea just how much. Pz2? wespe/hummel? (or was it a marder?) all parked down the road from me... I think part of their problem is the sheer size of the job and timescale involved, very hard to invest several years in such niche programming. Wheatcroft Panther looked well advanced though, might see it at a show soon.
watched the Panther episode today. Okay, i can see the attraction in tanks. Did i miss a programme though? Ah well, it'll be on again. In about 6 weeks time.
Watched the Panther prog. this morning after getting all excited the disappiontment was blindingly obvious. I took the dog for a walk instead. Can't stand the camera work and the sound bites of wealth and trivia, much like a cookery prog. by Nigella Lawson and now the lovely Irish cook Rachel. What's it all about? Has nobody got a concentration span above 5 nano seconds?
much like a cookery prog. by Nigella Lawson I certainly don't watch Nigella for her cooking (maybe for the eating, yes )
What is this male fascination with Nigella Lawson? It's the way she eats asparagus...............anyway, back to tanks.
