Just recieved war diary for 4th field reg. RA., courtesy of a member. heres an extract I found slightly amusing. August 1942: "Early in the morning about 20 rounds gunfire landed in the vicinity of 7 battery. One man was slightly wounded. A regimental concentration was fired in reply. 7 battery was not fired on again"
And another little gem: 8/7/1942 - everyone digging themselves in. 11/7/1942 - Bombing raid in the afternoon, no damage. Digging continued with more interest.
I once looked up an Anti-Tank unit war diary (can't remember whose) whihc featured the following annottation: Afternoon tea interupted by bombing raid How jolly unsporting of the Luftwaffe!!
