    LSGT William herbert Ernest Turrell. Enrolled mansfield 08/07/1940 into Royal Army Service Corps, 8th Army. Service No T/214375. Served under Monty in Tripoli. In charge of lorries and tanks. Navigated by the stars. Lost behind enemy lines in Libyan Desert, presumed dead. Awarded African Star 8 Army Clasp. Campaigns MEF 29/09/41 - 09/09/43. BNAF 10/09/43-16/03/44. Admitted to Cambridge Hospital Aldershot 01/07/44 and then moved to NCSMB Leeds 24/08/44. Discharged 24/04/45 as not able to fulfil army physical.
    Can anyone fill in the gaps of service especially Libyan?

    Hi Roderick,

    You seem to have some detail on William's movements; does it mentioned any units which would be really useful. It would be worthwhile posting any documents you may have on here for others to study.

    Also, I am purely making the assumption that 'in charge of lorries and tanks' could point to a Tank Transporter Company.

    Checked the casualty listings (Missing/wounded/killed) No listings at all for number T/214375 or `William Herbert Ernest Turrell`. Sorry
