Hello all Apologies if I've posted this in the wrong forum, please feel to move it if I have. As I've posted elsewhere I'm currently in the process of researching my Grandfather's service with the 2nd Batt. East Yorkshire Regiment. I know that he was in the first wave of assault troops to come ashore at Sword on D-Day, and so my question is can anyone recommend a good book that details D-Day from a Sword Beach perspective? I have 'Assault Division' and 'Monty's Ironsides', but wondered if there was anything that dealt purely with Sword as opposed to D-Day as a whole? Thanks Matt
As a WW2 guide if you are planning a visit you may like this: Sword Beach (Battle Zone Normandy): Amazon.co.uk: Ken Ford: Books Osprey books are quite good too: D-Day 1944: Sword Beach and British Airborne Landings Pt.3 Osprey Campaign: Amazon.co.uk: Ken Ford, Howard Gerrard: Books
Hi Matt I copied a report at Kew which is a summary of 3 British Division activities between 6 & 30 June 1944. 15 pages cover the activities on June 6. If you PM me your e-mail address, I send them to you. It mentions the E. Yorks. Regards - Rob
Matt All pages have been sent. They are numbered sequentially and if any are missing please let me know. Cheers - Rob PS - The file reference is WO205/903.
Although not strictly Sword Beach, "From Normandy to the Ruhr" by Heinz Gunther Guderian is well worth reading. This covers the activities of 116 Panzer Division.
