    Bonjour Cayes,

That is the limit of my French alas.

His CWGC entry: https://www.cwgc.org/find-records/find-war-dead/casualty-details/2323937/william-sweeney/ I note he died on 13/8/1944 alongside four other 1st HLI, who were originally buried @ Acqueville (with a Map Ref) and 'Concentrated' 22/3/1946 to Banneville Cemetery.

I used online searches to identify threads here; more difficult than normal as the units name varies, so I looked at the results

From: War Diary: 71st (Royal Welch) Anti-Tank Regiment

Their War Diary is: WO 171/1309 1 Highland Light Infantry (City of Glasgow Regiment) 1944 Jan.- Dec. In 2018 Drew5233 referred to having copied it. From: War diaries of regiments in the 53rd Welsh Division. I will send Drew a PM to alert him to your post if he can help. PM explained at the end.

Some background and that 1 HLI were part of 71 Infantry Brigade. See: 53rd Welsh Division Documents Introduction

There may be an official history of 1st HLI / 1 HLI; not for 1st HLI on Wiki. Wiki has this: Highland Light Infantry - Wikipedia

A short history of the division gives some context for the fighting in August 1944. See: 53rd (Welsh) Infantry Division - Wikipedia

There are several books and I suspect some members have a copy, though the posts were for fighting in the Reichswald in 1945. See: 53rd (Welsh) Infantry Division - Wikipedia Such histories rarely mention an individual soldier, but may include some details of the fighting.

Unable to identify an Operation Towable here and online. What was your reference for this please? Normandy 1944 is not my focus. Several other operations at that time.

    PM explained:

If you hover over the name of the member in their avatar it will show a new text box and within is the date of their last logged visit. Some members "flag" their interest in a thread, which means they get a system alert. Once you have posted five times - a measure to stop spam - you can send a private message (PM) to members using 'Start a private conversation' accessed via your avatar. Such messages depend on their email given at registration is still valid. You can receive and reply to a PM already.

    Good luck. Bonne Chance.
