Stupidly, after fixing what I thought was all the links and drop down menus that required tweaking after the re-skinning, I forgot to mend those on the top right of the portal header as I never use them.
Sorted now. Very sorry 'bout that if you've tried to use 'em.

Can people please note any dead links or non-functioning forum features on this thread so I can sort 'em out. I'd really appreciate it as they're often very easy to miss. Hopefully all the tidying up and tweaking's done now, but do tell if you spot something not working quite as it should.

Any other suggestions to do with the forum's functionality also welcome... I think. :peepwalla:

    Cheers,
    Adam.

    Hey VP.
Any chance we can have the members birthdays showing on the calendar, please? :D

Just turned that on to have a look Gage.
Does it make the calendar look a bit messy though?

We were mildly concerned a while back about displaying birthdays at all, kind of a public thing to have quite often associated with a real name... but as everybody has the option to keep their birthday private if they choose (via the usercp) I'll leave it on for the moment. Up to individuls to delist themselves as they see fit.

I am gradually becoming more skilled in the fine art of saying... 'no'. ;)

Seriously though, if there's anything that bugs anybody, is changeable, and won't wind others up then I'm happy to see if it can be improved.

    One question only, Von Poop.

    What are Social Groups ?

Do you explain me about this matter?

    Thanks in advance!

    Jan.

To be honest Jan. I still haven't worked them out myself.
    Social groups.

They're a new feature of the vBulletin software we use that came when it was quite heavily upgraded a while back.
Just another channel for communication really, any registered user can start one on any subject or interest they like.

Whether they conflict with a straightforward thread, or may prove to be useful to someone at some point I haven't yet decided.

The primary difference they have from threads is perhaps the ability to have a separate image gallery associated with each one, and they can also be made viewable only by members of that particular group (and mods/admin).

    Cheers,
    Adam.

I'd dare to suggest, if it can be done, limiting the birthday listings to WWII veterans as I think we'd generally agree it's a date we should celebrate. As for us proles it doesn't really matter as much does it?

    cheers,

I eventually left the birthdays on the calendar itself because everyone can choose to make theirs anonymous to the whole forum if they wish.
Looking at it now (the calendar), the events do get masked by the birthdays when there's lots of them so I've switched 'em off there (sorry Gage! - U-turn after only a few months ), they should still appear in the right hand box on the portal (and profiles) if people have allowed them.

Not entirely sure I can change the settings by usergroup Chad (long options menu - late :D). To be honest I'm still not sure it's ever that wise to display one's birthday on the Internet, but the system's there as a bit of fun for those that want to use it and as I know we're all grown up enough to make decisions on whether we do I'll leave it to individual choice.

    Cheers,
    Adam.

Decided to plonk this on here rather than start a thread and have folk jumping to wild conclusions about all types of insidious activity.

It's about the PM text input box, or rather the size of it. I've found myself swopping some cracking PMs, many of which run into several hundreds of words. The problem is the input area is rather small, so I find myself scrolling up and down too much both in reading what's been sent and in replying in full. Any chance of making it bigger?

    cheers,

    You can do it yourself,
On the PM box see the icon of two arrows pointing up & two pointing down ?
    use that.
    Hope that helps.

    Well you live and learn...
    Never used that button before.

    Rather handy.

Hmmmm... I probably should have known that shouldn't I .

    Chad,
In case the extra length wasn't enough , I've now widened the PM input box too, as there was so much spare space to the right of it.

I'm leery about changes to these main templates as they can cause unintended problems with other formatting, so will be monitoring to be sure nothing else goes screwy because of it - should be OK though, and seems a harmless adjustment so far.
Just in case: If anyone sees anything that looks wrong now, it'd be much appreciated if you could mention it here.

    Hi Jan,
    This one's a 'no' I'm afraid mate.
I shamefacedly admit I just don't like the way it looked.
I find my own red username jarring enough against our pleasant green .

    Cheers, and apologies,
    Adam.
