Suffer from grief from the missus or girlfriend over modelling?

I don't apart from the regular denial of my sanity, but I was talking to chum Terry the other day to hear all kinds of palaver he endures and thought well actually you're not the only one I know who does chum.

So I thought I might jokingly shame his missus away from hassling him, but then thought if you'll going to do this for one suffering modeller might as well do it for the lot.

So I've bunged this up on the world's greatest 6mm blog to set the wheels in motion...

Being divorced I am exempt from such harassment. I never suffered much from that, except for time spent computer gaming (I agree there are better ways to spend your life) and the occasional entire weekend out in a wargames tournament.

As it appears I am headed for bondage again (double: acquiring a new SWMBO and a restaurant) it will be a time for carefully thought management: I'm taking pains to present my hobbies in the best posssible light ;)

    Besides my fascination with the God's Own Scale (armies: 2 x Ancient, 2 x WW2, 2 x WW3 pre-Perestroika) I also enjoy R/C airmodelling and I paint Zinnfiguren.

The former and latter benefit a lot from the Cute Factor, especially the Zinnfiguren because the field on offer beside military figures is immense, including some "chick magnets" such as these.

My airmodels are quite ok as well, I took my 'candidate' to the field a few days ago and I made the stay in the wide open field under beautiful sunshine and wind in the hair into a romantic occasion :) (I understand if "some" of you will not believe this  but I did, "There's more to this hobbit than meets the eye!")

It's all a matter of careful management, work her into your hobby. Do the occasional special figure for her. Take her to a show, work up on the social aspects, and be careful to keep her away from the Nerd Factor.

Never, never, never be a Nerd. Instead, if you're into figures can I recommend these from andrea Miniatures?

Again, never, never, never fall into this trap! :D

Being a female, I too dont suffer from this greif from the missus or girlfriend. To the actual point, I dont do it. Apparently it is not for teenage girls :D

Holy Ratburgers! It had never occurred to me that you were of the female persuasion! And I have a daughter you age to boot! What is this world coming to?

I too didnt realise at first that Jess was Female. Shows how narrow-minded I was!!

Must say I am pretty lucky in this respect; my other half puts up with a multitude of modelling junk and in fact she actually buys me the stuff for Christmas and birthdays! But must say the FB page did make me giggle!

Jess, my 10 year old daughter has made models with her dad - you should give it a try! Modelling knows no boundaries!

My missus does play the odd game now and again, she's a fearless and quite brutal opponent. Sometimes chums have started by foolishly going easy on her, only to regret it pretty quickly. None of the girls in my family get the modelling though. They do other craft based things but military modelling isn't one of them.

I'd only complain if the man in question gets in the way of my Titanic Scale Model!! To each their own space and all that!

Just got myself a few Airfix and Revell models a while ago too...

If I knew you guys better, I'd post a picture of me watching my mom (!) assemble modelkits when I was like five years old just to prove that being female ≠ anti-modelling...

That's pretty cool, Kate. Does your mum still make kits?!

No, she doesn't really have time for it anymore. I took over, but make kits only rarely and amateurish, with brush only... Two samples below, sorry about the sloppy picture-taking

I seem to have had more grief from spending time on the forum, than for spending time modelling!!

Difficult fitting both in and getting the house chores done!!

I just checked what my two "to make" models are and it's the HMS Fearless and a Spitfire Mark V I need to find the paint that's all and then I can get on with it!

Thank you very much, Kate! One of those intimate, shared moments :)

I've seen worse mothers, congratulations to both!
