As a kid in London I saw this form of fencing just about everywhere. I was told that they were old wartime stretchers which given their shape seems quite reasonable. Years later as a Fireman doing exercises in deep underground tunnels I saw the same things made up as cots. In fact they are probably still there as the idea was that these tunnels were now protection against nuclear attack rather than the Luftwaffe!!!!!
wouldnt never given them a second glance if I'd walked by them. make good trelis in the garden for climbers.
Amazing. I too was brought up in SE London and recall seeing this style fence on many municipal buildings. The quality of the materials used must have been of a very high standard to have lasted this long. As a child I admired the design, wonder whose idea it was to recycle in such a useful way?
