Certainly a tragic night for Bomber Command when to all intent such intruders were not expected and the Luftwaffe appeared to be a spent force.

For the Luftwaffe, there was a price to pay for they lost 25 Ju 88s in the Gisela Operation out of 200 night fighters dispatched,a loss rate of 12.5%...aircraft that they could ill afford to write off.

As regards No 12 Squadron, they could have easily lost three aircraft that night. How did the intruder manage to enter British air space without detection. It is possible that the intruders must have under flown the CHL system.
