Started with this... and got this far as of last night This is my first model in 10 years, and I can't wait to start another one ASAP!
PearlJam, before you put your B-17 in the shelf there is still some work to be done, like disguising those gaps along the top of the fuselage, the wing to fuselage joints, etc. You should be doing this before painting...

Keep at it, man Why don't try some single engine models first, they will be cheaper and easier, at least in theory. And you can always go to pretty places like Internet Modeler Scale Modeling Magazine March 2007 for inspiration (wipe the drool from the screen once in a while)
I wanted to do a B-17 first because I have one that I did when I was a kid hanging in my basement, and I wanted to do a better one. I think I'm going to try a Mustang or a Sherman tank next.
looks good. dont worry about painting first, esp in mat, i find its often easier to see blemeshes when they have their first coat on, i often do the first coat before the filler. yoy dont say what make. Kev
I'm cack at planes, it's looking a damn site better than my attempt at an me262 last year, I know they had some build quality problems but mine looks like it flew through an H2SO4 rainstorm while performing high stress maneuvers... it fell to the AA airgun at new years. I did the monogram 1/48th b17 as a kid and still have similar fond memories of it. If you fancy a Sherman next check out the new tamiya 1/48th ones, lovely little kits that almost build themselves. Cheers, Adam.
The revel 1/72 sherman (M4A4 I think Cast hull + 76mm gun) isnt that good a kit (though the tracks are nice) so if your doing 72 then give this one a miss. Go for an Italeri or Dragon one. Im into Italeri at them oment fora fiver there great value. Kev
this is a revell 1:72 b-17 F. i plan on doing touch up paint over the seams that will be reglued. i really just did this for fun, not necessarily for historical accuracy... i've got my eye on the 1:35 tamiya sherman... or can you fellas point me in a better direction. i've also recently found this website that i might buy something from as well... http://www.daveswebshop.com/airmain.shtml

Scale Plastic Hobby Model Airplane Airliner Kits Always for fun mate. I try to keep it accurate if I can but dont let it stop me from having some fun. My fave is to dress them up in completly the wrong sides colours (ive got some pics of B17's in German service if your interested). The great thing about the net is its often not to hard to find the picture your want. Kev
The 1/35th tamiya M4's are nice enough kits but getting a bit long in the tooth, they've also got the wierd missing track sponsons problem (as have the new 1/48th ones... annoyingly). Dragon are releasing some beautiful 1/35th Shermans at the moment but I offer the caveat that their delightful kits can be damned fiddly if you've been away for a while. I'm with you on the 'fun's more important than accuracy' thing... but then after a few you start looking at pictures and thinking "hmmm, wonder if I can do that exact machine" It often goes downhill from that point for me.

Kev You're either a mind reader or you've read some of my posts expressing interest in the captured B-17's of the KG200 Luftwaffe unit. I have a bunch of pictures, and another B-17 unbuilt model laying around, but finding the correct swastika and Luftwaffe decals has been a challenge.

Just I have a fascination with the German ability to take on captured equipment. From an engineering point of view its amazing how the did this so well. The pictures I have are from KG200 so we probably on the same pictures, I'll post them up anyway as VP and the other guys will no doubt like em. Kev
From 'KG200 the true story' by P W STAHL. cant ravce about this book enough, its just fantastic. I love it. Read it about 5 times now. hope mods dont get annoyed about me posting stuff from books...
hope mods dont get annoyed about me posting stuff from books... No worries I do it too. Anything educational is fine by me. All you lot who post your model photos are a brave lot. Good on yer, I'll get back into it oneday when the sprogs have gone. Last thing I made was a 1:1 scale longbow arrow, flew beautifully.
