HELLO, a request for help please. I'm looking for help finding out what unit, company, army field company my grandfather, a sapper, would have served in whilst in France in 1940 so i can then search for the war diaries of that unit. All i know is that he joined up in 1938 served in France with BEF, escaped through Dunkirk or vicinity.
The attached file shows the units serving in the Royal Engineers in May 1940, he must be one of these.

I know he was trained up served in in 8 field squadron in North Africa in 1942 and discharged wounded in 1943. Very keen to know anything about him, with who and where he served in France, when did he go to France. If you would not mind pushing this enquiry to members who might now more or know to help me get more info i would be very grateful. Thank you

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Best place to start is to send off for his service records from the MOD-they will tell you what unit etc he was in. You have his service number so they should be easy to find. There is a longer waiting time for them now due to the staff shortages with regard to the Coronovirus, but they are worth waiting for.
