    Hi Wills

Thanks for this, good pictures. it would be good to go down to Wilts one day, as long as we don't wander on to any firing ranges!

    Regards

    Heather

Thank you for posting this Heather, my Dad was also in the 5th Bttn Coldstream and I to am working on his memories from that time. He will be thrilled to read your Dads story
He always amazes me with what he remembers from that time.

Adding to the thanks to Stan and Heather for the Footslogger's War - a fascinating read that I only came across yesterday.

My father Reginald Lockwood Guardsman No. 2666072 also served with the 5th battalion Aug 1944 - July 1945 and then transferred to the Ist Btn Jul 1945-Sept 1947.

Sadly Dad died aged only 54 in 1978, when I was just 15, and because of his service and medical history in the army Mum was awarded a war widows pension.
I wish I had the time and inclination as a youngster to help him write down his memories - I am now trying to piece together his story from his service record, battalion diaries and photographs.
(See separate posting asking for information on him.)

Dad would have been 90 on 21st May 2014 - I aim to scan most of his photograph album which has many photos of him and his colleages covering 1944-1946 and make them available on this site to mark his birthday.

I remember many of my father's stories, took a lot of notes & recordings and I asked questions. Yet there will always be still more questions left unanswered.
Don't regret that you didn't start sooner: Hindsight is always too ready to waggle a finger at us. It is enough that you are doing it now and that you are making available your discoveries. We can all contribute a few pieces of the puzzle; some can't or won't commit to that.
