Stalag X11A

    Have rec info from ICRC regarding my John Blythe who died 12-12-1940 in Stalag V!!b before that he was in Stalag X11A Limburg, can only tell me about this camp was it a transit camp to process POW,s

    Limburg was the main processing center for American enlisted prisoners taken in NW Europe after D-Day. After a mugshot was taken and dogtag issued, the prisoner was usually sent to another Stalag, deeper in Germany. Officers were segregated and sent to Oflags. When a flood of American PWs started coming in from the Huertgen and the Bulge in late 1944, Limburg was supplemented by Gerolstein and the niceties of mugshots and I.D. tags were discontinued for the duration of WW2.

    Britman given Aldersdales dates and the fact that John Blythe was British it does not really tie in.

    True but it does give it as a holding camp. Why not in 1940?

    Britman, my point was mainly that the American involvement you mentioned was not relavent........... but I see your point on it being a camp back in 1940 and I found this, read from the pic of the Brit Para onwards;) Stalag XIIA POW Notebook
