    Guys,

    A delicate one.

On many of the POW Liberation Questionnaires and some of the diaries for guys at Bad Sulza, mostly Dunkirk vets and guys awaiting repatriation but also including about 150 RAF aircrew captured around mid 1941, there is mention of a chap called Styles.

I have found a Lib. Questionnaire for a Styles that looks likely but the wrong camps, but it does seen possible as it says 'Forward original to Capt Friend and Lt A E Ward 2NZEF' and 'copy to G Br (A3) AFHQ'.

If you were under suspicion or knew that you had done wrong you would try to detract from the situation or you would not complete a questionnaire, which seems more likely.

Does anyone have any information on this Styles at Bad Sulza and whether any action was taken against him?

    Regards,

    Nick

I cannot comment on this with any authority but wonder how many` Styles` were held at this camp and how many may be mistakenly be implicated as conspirators with only a surname ??

    Kyle,

I fully agree with you and l was in too minds about putting the name in the post but without it, there is very little to go on and it is in the public record on the Liberation Questionnaires anyway.

To me this is not about publicising his misdemeanour's further as l am sure he would have received the correct level of punishment at the time, but more about seeing if there are some reports that tell me a bit more about the goings on at Bad Sulza.

To be fair, there are very few Styles, none at Bad Sulza, in the Liberation Questionnaires but as l said, if he knew, would he have completed one?

There were many who reported both Squadron Leader 'Wings' Day and Squadron Leader Elliott at Dulag Luft, little knowing that 'Wings' was actually tunnelling out at the time and Elliott was later investigated and no charges made. Roger Bushell is photographed having a great time in the hands of the Germans as a POW on a 'skiing holiday' but no one is suggesting he was a conspirator. George Grimson was reported by a number of POW's as being in the Germans pockets but he was just getting under their skin, perfecting his German and in my mind is one of the greatest escapees ever.

The fella l am looking at does appear to have informed on at least one escape attempt and seemed to have had certain privileges but the next question is, 'was he a plant'?

Compared to some of the other POW's of all nationalities with loose tongues, he should be considered of good morale background but you have to remember how wretched some of their existences might have been.
