Superb pictures, just what I haven't yet unearthed covering our home guard. What are your sources and methods?
Home Guard map, covering the Stone district. Local Defence Volunteer Force (later renamed the Home Guard) map of the area north east of Stone used during exercises during World War II. The different coloured areas show areas of responsibility for different companies. It is dated June 1940.
The National Fire Service, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent The Auxiliary Fire Service was formed from volunteers at the outbreak of war, to assist the regular Fire Brigades. The name was changed to The National Fire Service in August 1941 when the regional regular Fire Brigades and the AFS were merged. After the war the NFS was dissolved and Fire Brigades returned to being organised on a regional basis.
