    Hi,

I need to find out the structure of SS-Panzer Regiment 9, 9th SS-Panzer Division Hohenstaufen, ideally with Company Commanders, for around summer 1944.

    Can anyone please help?

    Many thanks in advance.

Many thanks, Sol, this is really useful. Much appreciated.

I'm specifically after the names of the companies within SS-Panzer Regiment 9 and the company commanders around summer 1944.

    Thanks again.

    I've managed to trace this:

German records show that on 1.6.1944 SS-Pz.Rgt. 9 was organized and equipped as follows:

    With the 9. SS-Pz.Div. were:

    Stab u. Stabskp. SS-Pz.Rgt. 9 (7 Pz. IV)

    Stab u. Stabskp. II./SS-Pz.Rgt. 9 (1 Pz. III, 5 Pz. IV, 2 StuG III, Fla-Zug with 3 Sd.Kfz. 7/1)
    5. Kp. (18 Pz. IV)
    6. Kp. (18 Pz. IV)
    7. Kp. (20 StuG III)
    8. Kp. (18 StuG III)
    Pz.Werkstatt-Kp.

The Panther-Abteilung was still forming and training in Mailly-le-Champ in France:

    Stab u. Stabskp. I./SS-Pz.Rgt. 9 (8 Pz. V, Fla-Zug with 3 Sd.Kfz. 7/1)
    1. Kp. (Pz. 8 V)
    2. Kp. (Pz. 8 V)
    3. Kp. (Pz. 8 V)
    4. Kp. (Pz. 8 V)
    Pz.Werkstatt-Zug (2 Bergepz. V)
39 more Panthers were shipped to the unit between June 7th and 9th, 1944 so that a full 79 were available when it later during June 1944 joined the rest of the regiment. By then 3 Panthers should have been handed over to the Rgt.Stabskp., the Abt.Stabskp. should have kept 8 and each of the companies 17.

Can anyone help with the unit commanders, especially of I./SS-Pz.Rgt. 9, around June/July 1944?

    This is very helpful.

Is the OOB shown based on actual returns, or notional establishment?

As off the Normandy invasion these were the officers of SS Pz Abt 9

    Stab u. Stabskp. SS-Pz.Rgt. 9 - CO - Obersturmbannfuhrer O. Meyer
    Adjutant - Obersturmfuhrer Bauer

    Stab u. Stabskp. II./SS-Pz.Rgt. 9 CO - Hauptsturmfuhrer Hilgenstock
    Adjutant Untersturmfuhrer Peglow
    5. Kp. (18 Pz. IV) - Hauptsturmfuhrer Hunke
    6. Kp. (18 Pz. IV) - Obersturmfuhrer Th. Grimm
    7. Kp. (20 StuG III) - Obersturmfuhrer K. Frohlich
    8. Kp. (18 StuG III) - Obersturmfuhrer Rennart
    Pz.Werkstatt-Kp.

The Panther-Abteilung was still forming and training in Mailly-le-Champ in France:

    Stab u. Stabskp. I./SS-Pz.Rgt. 9 - CO Sturmbannfuhrer H. Bollert
    Adjutant Untersturmfuhrer Windisch
    1. Kp. (Pz. 8 V) - Obersturmfuhrer Fiederich

According to a report dated 1st June 1944(Ia/Nr.592/44) The 9th SS had the following:

    StuG
    Authorized: 40
    Operational: 38
    Short Term Repair: 2

    Pz III
    Authorized: 12
    Operational: 4
    Short Term Repair: 2

    Pz IV
    Authorized: 58
    Operational: 41
    Short Term Repair: 5

    Panthers: 0
As the I Abt. was at Mailly le Camp refitting it did not come under the 9th SS for reporting purposes. On the 10th June the I Abt. had 40 Panthers and, as Lautris said, between the 7 & 9 June a further 39 were shipped from H.Za to the Abteilung bringing it up to its authorized strength of 79.

On the 10th June 1944 the division was ordered to adopt the new Frei Gliederung KSTN but given the fighting and losses from Normandy onwards like most divisions I doubt it was actually adopted in it's entirety.
