    Hi,
I was lucky enough to obtain this full SS belt and late war unmarked buckle from a friend that met this man in the late 80's. He is shown in the photo wearing the actual belt. The photo was taken in 1944 in Riga, his name is Karlis Jonums, written in pencil on the back of the photo and he is posing with a friend.
When I use my Iphone I can't rotate...the Canon files are too large.

    Thanks and sorry, Max

    Hi Keith,
Thanks and sorry for the lousy pic.
The buckle is under my name and the photo of the wearer is just on top .

    Thanks, Max

I wonder if you would care to explain to me the origin of the photo that is on your avatar immediately under your name and what particular significance it has for you ?

Since posting the above I have done what I should have done in the first place, namely, paid a visit to our "sister" site ww2f and made a search on the poster's name.

I see that he has already given a pretty full explanation here:
My Grandfather was a soldier in the Waffen SS

Nevertheless I still invite Max to explain to me why he has chosen this photograph as his avatar.

    Ron

    ps
On exploring the ww2f postings even further I note that the last posting from the Max Hansen's "grandson" was on 25/9/11, he only posted once and the thread has since been closed.

    Mystery on top of mystery.........

ww2f seems to think that he may have been a 'troll'; I suppose that time here will tell.

Although, he seems to have posted a bit more here.

Nobody has an obligation to explain their avatar.
If one's genuinely offensive, it'd be binned - to be honest the Heil Hitler Avatars normally die with their membership, so it's never been an issue.

For what it's worth - the Avatar in question is indeed apparently Standartenfuhrer Max Hansen.
Mine's Aleister Crowley - I'm neither an Anti-semite, black Magician, or collector of Scarlet Women.

The text on WW2F is a cut/paste from Wiki -and there's no direct connection between the poster there and 'Max' here.
It is quite an assumption to imply they are the same person.

This is the Militaria section. Talk about Militaria please, not another of these witch-hunts.

As soon as I saw the first post I had a suspicion regarding the source.I must say that I thought the poster's name used was a tribute to the personality who should be well known to all have an inkling of the SS at this level.

For his part,Hansen would have been well indoctrinated.Served alongside Peiper and Mohnke in the events in Belgium of December 1944.

    VP,

Good point; I'd taken as read that the 2 posters were one and the same. I agree that this was a bit too much of an assumption.

We did not necessarily consider the OP a troll. He posted once and never returned. We closed the thread because of that. Had we considered him to be a troll, we would have removed the thread.
