Not sure if this has been posted before, but came across it recently. A long story and I have not got to the end of it yet. SS Allende - Her Story
Hello Rav4, Indeed and interesting story. 8 months after the sinking of ALLENDE, U-68 [Merten] torpedoed and sunk my father's ship. Details of U-68 and Merten included on a page on my website: U-68 Kapitän zur See - Karl-Friedrich Merten Regards Hugh
Found out my grandfather served on this ship in 1940. Anybody got the ship movement cards? Link appears broken on post #1. Can I find this info elsewhere? Thanks Maria
That was some read TD. Thanks for the link Hugh and the panel photo Clive. Eight died unfortunately http://www.cwgc.org/find-war-dead.aspx?cpage=1 The eldest, 60 year old William Souter from Aberdeen, was buried at Timbuktu with another colleague. His death was announced in the Press & Journal newspaper 11 Jul 42 giving the additional information that wife Jenny was living at 19 Rose hill Place, Aberdeen and the same announcement in the Aberdeen Weekly Journal 16 July 1942 gives his wife name Jenny Scott.
