Anyone with info on Squadron 11 RAF WW2? My father, a Canadian, was posted to the Squadron in late 1943 -- they flew Hurricanes on the India/Burma front. He was shot down and ended up in Rangoon Prison. I have some pictures I think of Squadron 11. I assume they lived in Bamboo huts for a while in Lalmai based on my Dad's flight log but wonder if they moved to Ramu which I think may have been the airfield where my Dad took off for a scramble in which he was shot done. Cheers.

Thanks. I figure his flight log was correct... last entry was Lalmai before he was shot down Feb 5/44. His name is Richard (Dick) Corbett by the way.

According to 'Air War For Burma' - C. Shores....

On Saturday 5 February 1944 12 Hurricanes of No.11 Squadron scrambled over Chiringa with F/O. P H G. Blight in hurricane HW853 and Sgt. R. Corbett in Hurricane HW601 breaking away from the formation neither returned, both were assumed to have been shot down. Sgt. Corbett later became a POW.

    Hi LYNNED:

My dad was in Squadron 11 at the Burma/India front. I remember him often telling the story of your dad and what happened that day when your dad was shot down. He has also talked about your father. My dad's name is Charles (Andy) Anderson and trained through the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. I am trying to write up about his service in the military during WW2 and came across this forum. Dad will be 90 this year. Is your Dad still alive?

    The Entry 25/01/1944 says "Lyons".
In the interesting post at http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/burma-india/22997-raf-airfields-bengal-arakan.html
    says
Ramu 2/ Lyons - 60 shown in the map. Probably two different way to say the same location. I've seen that there were at least 4 "Ramu" in different locations. Can it be that "Ramu" is just a codename?

    Thank in advance
    Max
