Dear dbf, No.80 (maybe?) for your consideration (and thank you so much for starting this thread, again, excellent work on your part). From a thread started by Vitellino a few months back (just one of many humbling threads started by this dear lady). Lieutenant Fleming and Rifleman Savage LRDG Italy June 1944 I'd posted the casualty details in pdf format within said thread (as I'd hoped at the time they would be easier for Vitellino to download for her records). Kind regards, always, Jim.
Thanks Jim, Rather than messing about with original thread, I've created new threads for each man and linked your post in both.
I didn't know this thread existed and so a couple of additions: Trooper Robert DUNN, Royal Scots Fusiliers & SAS: Trooper Robert DUNN, Royal Scots Fusiliers & SAS Indian Long Range Squadron ILRS Major McCoy: ILRS Major McCoy; he is included in the main thread on the Indian Long Range Squadron: Indian Long Range Squadron Captain Andrew Losco (ISLD helped by SF): Information about Captain Andrew Losco and Major Jock Mckee and Major ANDREW LOSCO MC - ISLD (SIS/MI6)

Some additions for the Indian Long Range Squadron (ILRS), more details on the ILRS on its own thread: Lieutenant James Edward Cantlay . .Commissioned into the Indian Army on the 15th November 1934. Promoted Acting, then Temporary Major in 1944, remained with the ILRS upon their return to India and became a substantive Major in August 1946. He died in 2001, in Dorset. From: Officers of the Indian Army 1939-1945 -- B and papers with the author of http://www.lrdg.org/Indian_Long_Range_Patrol.htm Captain Travers John Durrant Birdwood . At the start he acted as the unit’s Adjutant. Promoted Captain 1942, he remained with the ILRS after North Africa and served in Persia, he retired 1946 and died 1983. From: Officers of the Indian Army 1939-1945 -- B and papers with the author of http://www.lrdg.org/Indian_Long_Range_Patrol.htm Captain Alan Bowring Rand . Born Kingston, Surrey in 1909 and he was commissioned in the Indian Army on 8/4/1941. From: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/35241/page/4584/data.pdf He served with the ILRS till the end of the North Africa campaign and returned to his unit. He retired in 1946. From: Officers of the Indian Army 1939-1945 -- B and papers with the author of http://www.lrdg.org/Indian_Long_Range_Patrol.htm He died in 1981 From: Charles Hicks' (bap. 1794-1879), and Anna Thompson's (d. 1878) descendants Lieutenant Gilbert William Nangle. A short summary: He had served in an Indian Army infantry battalion, after leaving he served in the Spanish Regiment of Foreigners (also known in Spain as the Foreign Legion) during the Spanish Civil War and by 1940 was serving in the Palestine Police before having an emergency commission and had served in Iraq on secret missions. He left the ILRS for the Gurkhas in early 1942 and died at Monte Cassino in 1944. From: http://www.cookstownwardead.co.uk/persondepth.asp?cas_id=437 Captain “Bill” Francis Bagenal Boyd . A few details: He served for four years in the ranks of the Queens Own Royal West Kent’s. He was with the ILRS till the end of the North Africa campaign and then returned to his unit. He served in the 11th Cavalry (PAVO) and was awarded the Military Cross for his service in 1946 in Java, Netherlands East Indies (Indonesia), he retired as a Major in 1949 and he died in 2006. See: Officers of the Indian Army 1939-1945 -- B and papers with the author of http://www.lrdg.org/Indian_Long_Range_Patrol.htm Added 18/12/2022 from a private family biography recently provided: Francis Bagenal (Bill) Boyd was born on October the18th, 1913 at the family home, Kiltra House, Carrig on Bannow, County Wexford. Ireland. There were several family connections with the British Army and being keen on adventure Bill enlisted, in January 1933, for a nine year engagement as a private soldier in the Royal West Kents which at the time was garrisoned at Maidstone, Kent. After two years in the ranks with promotion to Lance-corporal and later to Corporal and following a third and successful appearance before a selection board, he went to Sandhurst to train as an officer. When he gained his commission he passed out well enough to qualify for a place in the Indian Army. He preferred the Indian Army because the pay was better and it also was less expensive to keep horses in India. Following his arrival in India and an initial six month posting with a British Army regiment which was stationed there at the time, Bill then took up the offer of a place in Prince Albert Victor’s Own Cavalry, a regiment in the Indian Army. While the Indian Army was a separate entity, run by the colonial government in India, regiments from Britain were also posted for several years at a time to various parts of the then British Empire including the Indian subcontinent which comprised of what is now India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma and to some extent Ceylon. The PAVO continues today as the 11th Cavalry, one of the premier regiments of the army of Pakistan. While Pakistan is a Muslim country my father received a Christmas card every year, as did his brother officers, from the officers and men of his old regiment until his death in 2006. In 1947, at the time of the handover to the new state of Pakistan he retired from the army and together with Bandit, his Dachshund dog, Bill flew back to England. Captain Fitzgerald, alas no details found online. Second Lieutenant D.G.A. Fitzgerald, alas not fully identified. Captain Joseph Edward Havelock Hudson. He commanded the Heavy Section and was the Intelligence Officer. there is a photo in the IWM Collection of a group in May 1943, this lists a Captain J.E.H. Hudson and un-named Sikh driver of the ILRS. See: SERVICE OF LT COL J R ARCHER-BURTON WITH THE CORPS OF ROYAL MILITARY POLICE, EIGHTH ARMY IN NORTH AFRICA, SICILY AND ITALY DURING THE SECOND WORLD WAR He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant 21/4/1936. See: https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/34308/page/4749/data.pdf He was possibly in the Baluch Regiment officer and upon the ILRS return to India he left them. He later became a diplomat based in Bahrain. See: https://www.qdl.qa/archive/81055/vdc_100023578238.0x000050 He died in 1976. Benjamin Broughton Gingell, a British officer (newly commissioned and ended as a Captain), he served with ILRS in India and Iraq, 1945-1947. Born 15/12/1924 and died April 1994, buried in Plymouth.
