    Hi All,

I'm trying to help a family trace their relatives time in Burma in 1943-45. He is a Chindit 2 participant, but no information can be found for this part of his service. However, they have sent me this info today:

AAC/Para Regiment 42C. I am wondering whether this refers to his involvement with 42 Commando. Does this make some kind of sense do you think.

    Many thanks.

Hi Steve, it looks like that is referring to 42 Commando to me.

As you know 42C were assigned to the 3RD Special Service Brigade seving in India and Burma in 1943–45, It took part in the third Arakan campaign and carried out a series of amphibious landings down the Burmese coastline. Including the landings at Myebon and the Battle for Hill170. It then returned to India to prepare for Operation Zipper the invasion of British Malaya. The war ended before the operation began and the commando was diverted to reoccupy Hong Kong.

6th Airbourne following its amazing record in North West Europe was redeployed to the Far East in June 45 but again the War Ended whilst they were in training.

Not sure therefore if he was with the Commando's and then transferred to the AAC but events overtook him?

Thanks for the reply CK. I am going to ask the family for a scan of the service records, so I can have a proper in depth look. Hopefully there will be something else there in way of a clue.

    Cheers

    Steve
