Hi, I am posting this thread on behalf of forum member Omri in connection with a thread he started on this sub forum concerning his great uncle - entitled Reg Morris etc. Forum member Ramacal was kind enough to copy and post the POW questionnaire that Reg completed on his repatriation from Germany in May 1945 after almost 4 years in captivity. Omri has noticed that Reg was in Stalag IIID from Dec 1942/June 1943 although apparently not in the main camp but at Spandau Work Camp. There are various mentions on this site and elsewhere of at least part of Stalag IIID being used to turn POW into collaborators and to recruit personnel into the British Freikorps. In my opinion Reg does not appear to fit the profile of a collaborator as he records on his POW questionnaire 2 escape attempts and time in a military prison. I have had contact with several forum members via the PM facility but to try and research this matter further can any member assist with any details of the Spandau work camp? What was it's number? I understand potential collaborators were sent to s sub camp 517. Thanks Steve Y
Steve, I do not like to rely solely on Wiki, but it shows Spandau and states inmates worked at a Chemical factory. III Army Corps (Berlin) Mannschaftslager Spandau Citadel housed a Chemical unit of the Wehrmacht who were experimenting on Nerve Gasses during the war, so it does fit in. I would think it could have been located at Ruhleben, which was the location of a WW1 Camp. Regards Tom
