I'm trying to locate any relative or anyone with links to the South Wales Borderers that served in Burma. I have a photo of a chap who was my Grandads friend, Harold Atwell from Newport, S Wales.
    Pic of Mr Atwell attached.

Alex, There is a Facebook Group -Burma Vets of World War2 which might be worth joining. Also, I believe SWB were part of 36th Division and fought down through Northern Burma in 44.

    Hi.
Yes I'm on that FB page. Interesting regiment the SWB, Infantry converted to armour then back to infantry but they kept the RAC trooper designation instead of private.

Alex, Yes, unlike the 9th Btn Royal Sussex who went through a similar transformation but returned to previous titles.

The Griffiths family of Blackwood South Wales had a father Jim who was a Japenese POW I am not sure if he was in Burma but my family lived opposite them and I recall talk of being with 'old Slim' - probably no help but they are still there and I think he was a Borderer

I’ve since found out he was attached to 1st Beds and Herts in Burma ( my grandads unit). I found the casualty report reference from August 44 which shows him with 1 B/H.
