    Hi Phil
Attached those for Warrington, well the ones we locate, could not find six though we searched for ages in the sections noted. Poss. they may be in family plots or are the headstones missing?
Have contacted the cemetry and await a call, as to when I can meet up with them and be shown the relevant plots.
Found another chap, from his number may he have transferred from another unit? H Leicester 14650843 17/04/44 (sect P plot 276).
    Trust these meet your requirements
    Regards
    James

James, just Fantastic, and a great help and another dent in an ever decreasing list. I will see if I can find out if the last 5 are CWGC or Family memorials. I did have Leicester in my ROH, but somwhow missed it off the list that I sent you.

Very refreshing to note that a number of the Headstones, are clearly replacement indicating that the CWGC is doing its job in the local Cemeteries.

    Once again many thanks

    Phil

    REICHSWALD FOREST WAR CEMETERY

Edward Adam Carse was born in Hampshire on 19 June 1911, the son of Verena and Adam Carse later moving to Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire and worked in the Solicitor’s Department at New Scotland Yard .

While serving as Captain (temporary Major) in the Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry Edward Adam Carse was awarded the MBE announced in the London Gazette of 30 January 1945.

    The citation reads :
“ At La Breche, France in 1944 a bomb set alight petrol and ammunition in one of the Sector Store Dumps. On receiving news of the fire, Major Carse immediately went to the beach and organized a party to drive away vehicles likely to be set alight by the flames. With Lieutenant Colonel Sale he then set about curtailing the extent of the fire. Fragments from bursting shells and mines were falling all around the area. Major Carse nevertheless, with complete disregard for his own safety, moved about tirelessly in the conflagration, amid the burning ammunition stacks urging his small party to maximum effort. After 3 or 4 hours work the fire was brought under control and one third of the dumps saved.”

Major Carse was posted as a replacement to the 1st Battalion, South Lancashire Regiment and joined the Battalion on 22 February 1945 on the Dutch/German border. On 26 February the battalion was given the objective of clearing a patch of woodland as far as the Udem – Weeze road. The South Lancs found their progress hindered by felled trees, machinegun posts and snipers and 5 of the supporting tanks were put out of action by panzerfausts. The leading platoons eventually reached the road but were picked off by machine guns and snipers. Casualties were Major Carse and four other officers killed, 25 other ranks killed and two officers and 40 men wounded.

Edward Carse was buried in the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery. His name also appears on the war memorial in Great Missenden and on the Roll of honour in the front entrance to New Scotland Yard.

Edward Carse’s father was the composer Adam Carse. He dedicated his Fifth Symphony written in June 1945 to the memory of his son and in 1947 he gave his collection of over 300 European wind instruments to the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill where it takes pride of place in the Music Gallery. A plaque on the wall beside the display cabinets bears the dedication "In Memory of Edward Adam (Peter) Carse, killed in action on February 27, 1945".
