    Hello all

I was recently put in touch by a third party with a very efficient researcher living in South Africa who has access to the SADF service records from both world wars and several decades either side. I am presently awaiting a first batch of photocopied records posted only a day or so after making the initial request. He also has very reasonable prices, and coupled with the strength of the £GB and US$ against the SA Rand makes for a very good deal.

NOTE: I have no association with the researcher other than as a client, but thought that readers would be interested in having the details of a good researcher in such a location, since SA records are not digitised and have to be photocopied and sent by post (and I have read threads about the difficulties and delays of seeking records direct from the SADF archives).

If anyone wants his email address please leave a post and I will contact you dircetly (save filling up my In-Box).

    Cheers

    Richard

    Hi Richard.

Could you please provide me with the details of the researcher in SA for the SADF records? As you've used them before could you also indicate how reliable they were and how much it costs?

    Cheers

    Hello

From September '04 the SA records were closed to all bar next of kin of those being researched.

I believe some flexibility has come back into the equation in recent months, although access is not as good as it once was.

(Will PM you with updated details.)

I would be interested in those details. Hope you still check this message, as you posted a long time ago.

Would appreatiate any help in South African access to records of POW's.

    Thanks,

I'd say mailing may be the only way to reach him now.

Thanks for tip, I can't see his mailing address?

I am doing some research on my Grandfather, who was a POW, captured in N Africa and spent time in Italy, campo 52 or 53 cant remember right now and also stalag 344. I have 3 letters from each camp, plus a lot of letters from before capture in N Africa. He was in the 1st reserve but transfered to the 5th brigade early Nov 41. Unfortuantly he died in 47' - he is listed on the CWGC web site.

When I get some time I will post copies of those letters and some of the things he mentions. I am just trying to find more info though.

    Thanks again.

    Welcome Penderel.

Thanks for tip, I can't see his mailing address?

If you go to DirtyDick's profile:
    http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/members/dirtydick.html
    There's a link that says:
'Send a message via email to DirtyDick'
This will take you to a form that sends to the email address without revealing it to you (prevents public email addresses & associated spam issues). DD has allowed the facility so hopefully he'll pick it up.

    Good luck.
    Adam.
