Sorry to ask but I just don't know...3 CORPS: Royal Army Service Corps Troops, Petrol Company RASC

I'm asking lots of general questions today trying again to follow my father's war.
I have asked before about what happened at Langford Lodge in Ireland ( I do have lots of information about the place but not why the RASC would be posted there) before the American Airbase was there. Father was posted to the 3 Corp Troops Petrol Company in 1941 and 1942. I can find both in the catalogue at Kew but both say they are closed for 29 years. Why would they still be closed?
He never talked about his time in Ireland except to say that he was on 'guard duty'.
So the general question is - why would records still be closed? What was so secretive. He did teach officers after this in London but he was only a private at that stage and just a mechanic.
    Thank you

They may not be closed, a lot of files state closed for 29+ years but that was after the war finished and you can go to Kew and access the files.

If you are in doubt about the files I am sure quick contact with the National Archieve will let you know the status

The file, like others, was closed for specific time periods. This one was closed for 29 years, now open.

I presume that the file that you refer to is WO 166/6095 - although it shows "closed for 29 years" if you click the viewing options box you'll see that the original war diary is open and available to view.
If you look at some of the other threads you'll see that members like Drew will copy files for a small fee.

Thank you all. I will go back and check the catalogue viewing options box. I am going to Kew next week and am trying to prepare!
    Thanks again
