Out Lechlade , Glos earlier today. Spotted this helmet on sale for 30 quid, my youngest took a fancy to it, told him to offer 20 for it but he offered 25 & the shop-keeper took that.
I nearly purchased some WW2 headgear this week, but got sorely beaten in an eBay auction on Thursday.
We've had a closer look at it & on the inside of the rim is stamped 'VP' & the strap attachments have '1938' on both.
Not like you to take such poor photos, Owen ! Afraid to use the flash in case someone shouted "Put that light out !" ? They look like Mk11 lugs. Can you take a photo of the rivets ? I've seen them fixed with soft rivets on Home front helmets. It seems they used the lugs up even on later shells. Is the rim magnetic ? I can't see VP in Marcus Cotton's list of manufacturers. Not 'WD' (William Dobson ?) Does it have a large head liner retaining screw ? It's not a bad price these days, whatever.
Crap mobile. I'll take some more with a better camera soon. edit. some detail pics. Rim is not magnetic.
I have a helmet that was allegedly used in the 1958 Dunkirk film which has those Mk2 lugs but they seem to be fixed with copper rivets. The rim join is on the side as well, as per this one which is apparently typical Home Front. It looks as if you have a nice example of Khaki Green No.3 inside.
