Hi James and welcome to WW2Talk. We have an SOE expert here, who goes by the screen name of Jedburgh22. He will probably be able to decipher your Great Grandfather's record. Good luck, Mike http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/members/jedburgh22.html
PTC is "Put through the cards" - basically meaning a check of MI5 card index to see if anything was recorded against the person, negative vetting. OSA - Official Secrets Act STS - Special Training School F - French section DS - Scandinavian section Force 136 - SOE section in Burma. Lee Editted to add: There are some more symbols listed here: http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/special-forces/29945-special-operations-executive-2.html#post377566
Hi James, I found a book "Undercover" by Patrick Howarth. It is all about SOE. I came across it when I was searching my fathers record. He was with ISLD/MI6 in Cairo. You might find it interesting.
