    Hi
I am doing a project for school and am trying to find where in France SOE agents were dropped if they were being flown from the UK. I would assume they would land in northern france but have been unable to find any towns or cities.

    thank a lot!

    Hi simonjh09,

If you look at my post on the Henri Dericourt thread the attachment shows where he piloted aircraft, either in Lysander or Hudsons, to various landing places in France, there were parachute drops as well.

Someone will have more detail about this.

Good luck with the school project.

One of the best references for indexing the French airfields and landing grounds that the SOE French Section operated to for Lysander and Hudson operations is contained in Hugh Verity's "We Landed by Moonlight" Some agents were dropped by the RAF by parachute from their base airfield at Tempsford

As regards, the US involvement in clandestine activities into France.A source of such information is the USAAF Carpetbagger squadron which was equipped with the B24 Liberator and which operated out of Harrington near Kettering,Northants. There is an abundant amount of information on this squadron available at the Capetbaggers Museum located on the fringe of the airfield....search the Carpetbaggers Museum...www.harringtonmuseum.org.uk

This squadron also dispatched British SOE agents. It was this squadron who dropped Violette Szabo into the Correze in June 1944 on her last fateful mission into France.

Good luck with your project.Fortunately there is much information online.its a question of being aware of how to pose the searches.

    Oh thanks everyone!
It seems strange to me they would not have dropped them in northern France rather than risk going deep into France and being shot down. Well I am enjoying researching this in any case!
