On the 7th of June the Berlin branch of the Royal British Legion have organised a Memorial Service at St George's Chuch, Charlottenburg, Berlin, to Commemorate those lost in WW1 (This being the Centenery year since the start of conflict in 1914).

We are Holding a Poppy Appeal BBQ later and requested members to look for WW1 Memorabilia.

Three members produced lots of postcards representing both British and German Soldiers and one of the German Members, Dierk, brought in a POW Kit Bag and German WW1 Bayonette, which belonged to his Grandfather, who became a British Prisoner of war in the UK.

He also brought several postcards and Family photos from the period and two were related to the German Naval Cruiser, SMS Emden.

Dierks Great Uncle, A Kailuweit was a member of the ships Company and is pictured centre in the attached photo.

The photograph Shows SMS Emden just Prior to sailing, I believe to China in 1913.

The Story of the Emden is very well known so I will just post a link.

Dierk also provided some photographs of a German Camp for Soviet POW's by the River Oder in the East, with another Family member who worked at the camp with Administration duties.

Present with Dierk was our Secretary Paul, who also brought photographs of his relatives in Uniform as well as those of his German wife's relatives.

It turned out that the Officer on Paul's wife's side was in Charge of the same POW Camp where Dierks relative worked.

Coincidence which certainly started a conversation which will roll on.

Dierk is happy that the photographs can be posted on the Forum.
