Just a little game I have finished recently (hope it works, never used Flickr or any image hosting type gubbins before...) Crossroads Skirmish - a set on Flickr Interesting how the combat sways back & forth. At various points in the game one thinks "hm...might as well pack it in, the Germans are bound to win" and then you get a critical hit here or there or you get a lucky morale check which allows units which have been practically wiped out to carry on (typical of various famous defenses by the BEF, for instance, whereby greatly reduced units were able to somehow "carry on") The Allies started out with 1 platoon British infantry, a few support weapons, a couple of heavy weapons and 3 troops of not that great tanks; the Germans began with an A/C recce company, a motorised infantry platoon in trucks, an armoured Schutzen platoon with SdKfz 251s and a light tank company comprising troops of Panzer 1s, Panzer 35ts and Panzer 38ts, so the allies aren't exactly overwhelmed, however. I suppose one could argue that maybe the Germans did not have overwhelming numbers in this scenario because, perhaps, this was the very tip of an extended hand. In any event, if the Germans seemed to be getting the short end of the stick I would have chucked in some more tanks to keep it interesting... Any requests for future scenarios?
All that on a 12 inch square board? What rules did you use again? Tempting to get back into wargaming, maybe I could get my lads into it.
My own rules, seem to be working out OK, not too many anomalies. When something odd happens in a game that is resolved perhaps only because it is a solo game, I rewrite something to clarify the problem. Am in the middle of evolving some ground attack and simple AA & dogfighting rules as well.
I see Navwar have sold Heroics & Ros. http://www.heroicsandros.co.uk/heroics/pdf/webcat.pdf Well spotted, I must ensure I get everything I need before the new owners start rationalising!
Looks like good fun, last I did this sort of thing it was Arnhem and I was 12, maybe I will attempt to interest the wife
Hadn't seen this before I have a number of 12" terrain modules, and it never occurred to me to use a single one for a skirmish size game! And your module is very well done, I have to say. Very good work, carry on!
