Just read the story in "Trautmann's Journey". I found a few bits 'confusing' - but one item in particular. In 1945 - "That same afternoon he was transferred to POW Camp 50 at Ashton-in-Makerfield, to be the driver for the camp commandant, Sir Arthur Glendenning" The Commandant in 1945 was Lieutenant Colonel R G Ireland. There were then another 2 Commandants before Lieutenant Colonel Glendinning, (note the different surname spelling used in all the reports) was appointed in early 1947. I have Googled Sir Arthur Glendenning - the only results are circular references back to the "Trautmann's Journey" entry. Does anyone have any further info on Glendenning / Glendinning? The book goes on to state; "After a few months Glendenning retired and another commandant came to take his place, a large bluff man who had been a POW himself in Germany...." BUT, Glendinning was the last Commandant at C50 Garswood. Oh dear.
