   Sir Alistair Horne, historian, journalist and former spy – obituary
   
   His "To Lose A Battle: France 1940" was one of the first 'serious' history books I read on the Second World War and started me off on my life long study. It's still one of the central books in English on the campaign.
   A truly great writer and historian.
