I have been searching the National Archives for my father-in-law's naval record, but the search produced nothing. Thomas Henry Horsham was born on 20 October 1911, we believe that he joined the Royal Navy as a boy. Hugh Maclean kindly helped find THH's Mention in Despatches dated 1 January 1942. We know that he spent quite a bit of the war on HMS Furious, and prior to 1936 spent two years on the China Station. He was discharged at the end of the war with a duodenal ulcer, having been given the option of remaining in the service and having an operation.Any help in tracking him down would be much appreciated.

    Is there any connection to:
HORSHAM family Devon (Devon Lookup Requests) Page 2 RootsChat.Com

Is it possible that this is his father - Thomas Henry Horsham??

    Thomas Henry Horsham
    1888–1963
BIRTH 25 DEC 1888 • Dunsford, Devon, England
DEATH 05 OCT 1963 • Exmouth, Devon, England

    Occupation
    Farm Boy, Officers Steward

So perhaps he had a son, called him the same and his son then 'followed' in his fathers footsteps???

I cant find anything on Ancestry for him, is it possible he was born overseas, or even at sea??

TD that is him. They were a Devon family, but I think that that THH was an uncle. I will check with the boss when she gets back. Hugh, she is Jack and Doreen's eldest daughter and I have at last nagged her into letting me check her family tree, would be most grateful for a copy of the service record. Jack died while we lived in Singapore and we don't even have his death cert - elsewhere in the family.

The family tree shows that 'Jack' & Doreen had 2 daughters. I will notify the tree originator to this thread and see what evolves, they may be a relative.

The daughters are Valerie June (my wife) and Rita - we know that Rita did start a family tree. The mistake about the birth dates is from this end, 20 October was Jack's sisters birth date. The Ayres were a Devon farming family
