    Sicily,

Stunning photographs, especially the battlefied with Mt Etna in the background.
Very hard to believe now that it was the scene of death and destruction.
I see that the sun is still shining!

    Regards

    Tom

    Hi,
Sicily 43 thanks for posting especially those DLI associated You`ve made my Day!
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

The DLI Association were concerned about the poor state of the Primosole Bridge Memorial at Catania, Sicily, where it was also threatened by extensions to the adjacent airport. The Mayor of Catania, Signor Guelli, employed contractors to repair and re-site the memorial about 250 metres away in an area close to the Oasis Nature Reserve where there was convenient car parking and good path access for visitors.
Veterans of the battle, Dick Atkinson, 87 of Whitley Bay, and Harry Lidster, 87 of Tanfield, went to Catania together with Major Chris Lawton, a former DLI soldier and now Assistant Regimental Secretary of The Rifles. This is the third memorial placed at the bridge the original consisted of a cairn of stones

Unfortunately Harry ( 6 DLI) has just recently fought his last battle and has gone to join the " Faithful ".:poppy:

Dickie Atkinson ( 9 DLI ) is still going strong and is as indomitable as ever :)
