Thought I would share some then and now pics from my recent trip to Italy, following in dad's footsteps again (2nd Skins). Fontaine Bianchi, where 13 Infantry Bde came ashore. Cassibile, laying behind Fontaine Bianchi. The modern Cassibile is some 500m further along the road, leaving this part totaly untouched Catania harbour and the northern breakwater from where 5th Div embarked for the Italian mainland. The quay-side has been widened to accomodate wheeled traffic. Syracusa War Cemetry Catania War Cemetry Up on the Gothic line to follow. Regards James
Thanks for showing these James, I tried to do something similar when I was in Burma. As you have found, some of the landscape changes very little over time.
Most excellent then & now. I've only been to Sicily once, 20 years ago this month. Didnt get to do anything relating to WW2 though.
James, Most excellent shots. I shall be in Sicily myself at the end of July, following some of the 78th and 50th Division progress in July/Aug 1943, including Fosso Bottacetto and Centuripe. best

Thanks for all the comments. Got back to Lemon bridge (correct location this time)to correct my post of some time ago, but after struggling trought tall weeds/grass and bushes over 200yds and with some distnce still to go, jibbed it. Was content with the shots I got form being on the northern side. James
